Are you an au pair in France and want to continue your studies here? Great idea! 🎉 Enrolling in university as an international student may seem complicated, but don’t worry! Here’s a simple and clear guide to help you through the administrative steps. 📚✅
1. 📍 Who Needs to Apply for a Preliminary Admission Request (DAP)?
If you are not a citizen of the European Union, the European Economic Area, or Switzerland, and you want to enroll in the first year of a bachelor's degree, you must complete a Preliminary Admission Request (DAP). 📝
If you live in France, you will need to fill out the green form.
If you live abroad, you must go through the "Études en France" procedure via Campus France.
⏰ Deadline: December 15, 2024, for the 2025-2026 academic year.
2. 📝 Required Documents for the Green Form
To complete your application, you’ll need the following documents:
Preliminary Admission Request form
Receipt form to keep
University’s response
Language proficiency test results
Registration form for the French language test (if required)
Acknowledgment receipt of your application
Important! Most applicants must take a French language test (such as TCF or DELF) to prove their language level. 🌐
3. 🔄 How Are Applications Reviewed?
Once your application is submitted, it will be reviewed by three universities of your choice. They must send you a response by April 30, 2025. 📅
If you receive an acceptance, you must confirm your choice by May 31, 2025. 👍
Received multiple offers? You must select only one and inform the relevant universities.
4. 🌐 Who Is Not Concerned by the DAP?
Some students are not required to go through this process and must follow other enrollment procedures:
If you are a citizen of the EU, EEA, or Switzerland, use Parcoursup.
If you want to enroll in an architecture school, visit the Ministry of Culture website.
If you are applying for a Master’s or Ph.D., contact the institution directly.
5. 📚 A Little Tip for Success!
Your French proficiency is crucial! To maximize your chances of admission, work on your comprehension and written/spoken expression. 🎨📚
Pro tip: Sign up for French classes, read books, watch movies in French, and practice speaking with locals! 🎥✨
6. 🌟 When and How to Apply for a Student Visa?
If you are currently an au pair in France and wish to enroll in university, you need to apply for a student visa to transition to student status. Here’s how to do it! 🚀
Prepare your university admission file: Before applying for a visa, you must have received an acceptance letter from a French university. 🎓
Apply for a long-term student visa (VLS-TS): This visa allows you to study in France for more than six months. You should start the application process at least three months before your au pair visa expires. ⏳📝
Required documents:
Proof of university admission 📄
Proof of sufficient financial resources (around €615 per month) 💸
Health insurance covering your stay 🧠
Valid passport 📚
How to apply?
From France: Some prefectures allow au pairs to change their status without leaving the country. Check with your local préfecture to see if this is possible. 👨🎓👩🎓
From your home country: If changing status in France isn’t an option, you will need to return to your home country and apply for a student visa at the French consulate. 🌍✈️
📌 Useful resource: Check the official website France-Visas for the latest requirements and procedures! 📚✨
